With the flu season knocking on the door many people are wondering if a flu shot is right for them. I can’t tell you if you need a flu shot or not, but I can tell you that the cost of your flu shot could possibly be paid for 100% under The Affordable Health Care Act. This along with many other routine vaccinations and services are sometimes covered under the preventive services regulation with no out of pocket expense to you, which means you may not have to pay any co-insurance, deductible or copayment.

The preventive services provision has a few regulations such as:

Your policy must have been created after March 23, 2010

These services will be available to you after your plan begins its first new “plan or policy year” which has to be on or after September 23, 2010

You will have to see an in-network provider for these services to be paid for

Those are the main regulations, to find out more and see if your policy is eligible for the preventive services previsions call us at Trustpoint Insurance (308) 882-3820, your agent or your health insurance carrier.

Health Savings Account (HSA) plans provide taxable benefits to many people. These types of plans are used in many different ways, from individual plans to group plans. In both structures, this plan design can offer taxable benefits as well as a reduction in premium costs due to its cost-sharing design. The actual savings account can be set up along with the insurance policy by the carrier, or can be set up at local banking institutions that provide health savings accounts.

An HSA eligible plan is a “high deductible plan” which is defined as a health plan with an annual deductible of a minimum of $1,200 (in 2012) for a single person and $2,400 (in 2012) for family coverage. This type of account has contribution limits that change annually, similar to an IRA. For 2012, on a single insured it is $3100 and for a family is $6,250. If you are 55+ years old, you can make a catch-up contribution of $1,000 for 2012.

HSA plans are not for everyone. Crunching the numbers to see if this can be a financial benefit is crucial on an individual basis.
